hostel environment
Edreira Hostel is located in Arca (O Pino). A cozy place with fresh air, silence, a green mantle around us, great food, ... all spiced up with some architectural gems and the indispensable elements of modern life at your fingertips.
Just off the legendary Arca Compostela is, as always the historic and attractive Camino de Santiago; these are the final steps towards the town of the Apostle.
O Pino has many interesting enclaves in store for us to enjoy. The Roman bridge is located in the parish that shares its name with the town hall. Here, a place known as A Ponte Puñide, a small bridge from the Roman era, situated on the river Mera. In its surroundings are located several Roman pieces, including a large bronze Modium.
Another point of reference is known as the Mountain Cathedral, a church located in a small valley in Lardeiros, and the much visited shrine of St. Irene in Arca. The shrine is close to a source where there was an image of the saint that dating back to 1692. Icon made from granite, with more than half a meter high. The image was stolen in 1989. Legend has it that the water from this source was collected for gardens, in order to end the presence of pests. In addition, it is said that St. Irene's children cure their ills by passing under his picture in the chapel. The festival is celebrated on June 29 in a procession that is traditionally performed by young bachelors of the parish, the oldest of each family.
O Pino also preserved historic buildings and stately and noble lineages linked to noble families who settled in different places of the municipality. Three of these majestic buildings still stand today, (the Marquis of Montesacro Pazo, Porto Pazo Pazo do Outeiro and Picon). All of them are now privately owned and are not open, a priori, to sightseeing.
As for celebrations, in O Pino there are many celebrations, mostly related to religious festivals. The following stand out; the A Magdalena, Castrofeito, 22 July, and San Pedro, Arca, on 29 June. In gastronomy, the reference is the well established Festa do Galo and Mostra Cabalar, celebrated the first Sunday in August, also in Arca.
